Sandakan to Sepilok

The city-to-orangutans run, done four ways: the famously cheap Batu 14 bus with its four daily departures, Grab and taxis at city rates, a hired driver for the day, or a tour that folds the whole thing into one price. The timetable below is the one piece of Sepilok logistics worth screenshotting. If you've got a spare half day either side, see what's actually worth seeing in Sandakan.
The Batu 14 Sepilok bus
Find the minibus terminal slightly in front of the Navy base on the Sandakan waterfront and look for the bus marked "Batu 14 Sepilok". RM6, about 45 minutes, and it terminates at the shared gate of the orangutan and sun bear centres — no junction walk on this service.

Read it against the feeding times and the shape of the day falls out: the 09:00 bus arrives in time for the 10:00 feeding; the 11:30 bus suits an afternoon-session day; the 16:00 return is the last, leaving exactly as the orangutan centre closes, so don't linger at the nursery. Other buses marked 14 or higher run the highway and drop at the Sepilok junction instead — a hot 2.5 km walk you only make once.
Taxi and Grab
RM40–50 one way, 30–40 minutes from the city hotels. For a day trip the sensible structure is a driver hired for the round trip with waiting, about RM100–120, arranged through your hotel desk or a driver's WhatsApp; several Sandakan drivers make their living on this run and will happily add Labuk Bay. Summoning a fresh Grab from the gate at 16:00 is the weak move — coverage is thin and the waiting taxis know it.
