The Sepilok itinerary

Sepilok rewards planning because everything runs on fixed hours: two feedings, a lunch closure, a 15:30 sun bear cut-off, a night walk that needs booking by five. Here's how many days to give it and exactly how to spend each one — the same plans our tours run, free to copy.
The perfect single day
- 08:45 At the orangutan gate for 09:00 opening — cash ready (RM30 + RM10 camera), bags to the RM1 lockers. The deck is yours before the vans arrive around 09:30.
- 10:00 Feeding, then the outdoor nursery while the crowd thins.
- 11:15 Across the car park to the Sun Bear Centre in its active window.
- 12:45 Lunch — Lake Bistro or your resort — through the heat and the orangutan centre's closure.
- 15:00 Choose: second feeding on the same ticket (quieter, warmer light) or the RDC canopy from 16:00 when the birds move again.
- 18:00 Staying over? The RDC night walk (booked by 17:00) is the best two hours in Sepilok. Day-tripping? Be moving by 16:00 — the last bus and the taxi arrangements leave with the closing gate.
The two-day version
Day 1: arrive, check in, the 15:00 feeding as your first sighting, RDC canopy at dusk for the flying squirrels, night walk 18:00–20:00, dinner at The Nest. Day 2: the 09:00 gate in near-solitude, 10:00 feeding, sun bears, lunch, and away — or the RDC's lake trails and Plant Discovery Garden if flying late. Two days turns Sepilok from a stop into a stay, and it's the shape our KK 2D1N uses.
The classic three days
Day one as above, then two nights on the Kinabatangan with four river cruises — wild proboscis monkeys, hornbills, and the elephant lottery. That's the 3D2N circuit, the single most-booked shape on this site, and honestly the right answer for most first visits.
With more time
Four days: add Gomantong's caves and bat exodus on the river leg. Five: open with the Selingan turtle night (book that first; it's the capacity bottleneck). Common itinerary mistakes
Arriving at 11:45 into the lunch closure; chasing the 10:00 feeding off a 09:30 flight; leaving the night-walk booking past 17:00; day-tripping on the 11:30 bus and wondering where the orangutans went; and giving Sepilok two hours between airport and river van, which sees the platform and nothing else.
