Sepilok Nature Resort

Sepilok Nature Resort is the polished end of the reserve road: timber chalets around a landscaped lake, a five-minute walk from the orangutan and sun bear gate. It's the default answer to "which Sepilok resort" for anyone who wants comfort without leaving the forest.

The place

Chalets are large, air-conditioned and verandahed, most facing the lake; the gardens are mature enough that hornbills and the occasional orangutan pass through. The open-sided restaurant does local and Western dishes over the water — order dinner early, kitchens in Sepilok wind down by 20:00. Expect resort-level pricing by Sepilok standards, still modest by international ones.

Why stay here

Position, mostly: you can be at the 09:00 gate before the Sandakan vans, walk back for a swim-free siesta (no pool — the lake is scenery, not swimming), and do the 15:00 feeding without a vehicle. Couples and older travellers rate it highest; families wanting a pool usually pick Jungle Resort instead.
