Sepilok + Labuk Bay in one day

Orangutans at 10:00, sun bears at 11:30, and Borneo's extraordinary proboscis monkeys a few metres away at 14:30. Three species you can't see together anywhere else on earth, one vehicle, all fees paid, back in Sandakan for dinner. This is the day for anyone who isn't continuing to the Kinabatangan but doesn't want to leave Borneo without the nose. The day
- 08:30 Sandakan hotel or airport pick-up.
- 09:30 Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre: 10:00 feeding and the outdoor nursery.
- 11:15 Sun Bear Conservation Centre, across the car park.
- 12:30 Lunch in Sepilok, then the 45-minute drive north through the estates to Labuk Bay.
- 14:30 Proboscis feeding at Platform A, the scenic mangrove platform. Time after for the boardwalk and, if you want it, the 16:30 session at Platform B.
- 17:00 Depart; Sandakan by about 17:45.
The reverse order
For photographers we run it backwards: Labuk Bay for the 09:30 Platform A feeding in morning light, then Sepilok for the sun bears and the 15:00 orangutan session. Same price; say which in the form.
Included / not included
Included: private vehicle for the whole loop including the estate track, licensed guide, entrance fees at all three sites, the Labuk Bay camera fee, lunch, water. Not included: flights, tips. The Labuk Bay leg has no public transport and Grab won't wait there, which is exactly what the vehicle is for; independent visitors pay RM150–180 for a waiting taxi from Sandakan before fees.
Should you pick this or the river?
If you have three days, take the Kinabatangan circuit and see proboscis monkeys wild from a boat. If you have one day, this is the best single wildlife day out of Sandakan. If you have two, do this plus a Sepilok overnight with the RDC night walk.
